#8: Adopt Don’t Shop

Adopt don’t shop is a saying coined by adoption advocates whom want the extinction of animal mills. An animal mill is a place where animals are forced into breeding, kept in unsanitary areas, and even abused. This is a thing where dogs and cats alike endure many awful practices. These practices include things like tail docking and ear cropping. Thousands of animals die before arriving at the store from poor transportation methods. When these animals are purchased at pet stores, it directly funds the mill.

By adopting from your near by humane society or rescue, you could find a new family member who desperately needs a home. By not going into the mall to buy a $4000 puppy, you’re choosing not to support these animal mills and hopefully they will be forced to shut down. These terrible people are making thousands of dollars off of abusing animals. They make they're living off hurting helpless creatures! How wrong is that?

If you need help finding adoptable animals near you try Pet Finder. It is a wonderful website that helps you find animals in need of a loving home.

Meet Theo, a Chow/Golden who is living at Mini Mighty Mutts Rescue in the Phoenix area. He is a young pup who is over a year old. He was born with a congenial abnormality so, his front right leg is shorter than the left. Theo has recieved FHO surgery on his front leg but may need it on his back leg in the future. He loves long walks, car rides, and maybe even swimming (beneficial for strengthening legs). This pup is ready for a family who loves him no matter his difficulties!

For the cat people in the world, meet the heart melting Izzie. She is a Tortoiseshell, baby girl, who is 5 months old. She’s playful and loves to eat! She has gotten all the vet needs like shots and spayed. You can find Izzie living at The Little League Rescue in Phoenix. This little girl is ready for her forever home.

By adopting animals like these two, we are one step closer to shutting down animal mills everywhere. Also gaining a new family member along the way.

  2. Very nice post! I like how you explained the difference between adopting from a pet shelter rather than a mall or elsewhere, and gave links to and examples of pets from a shelter through it. I can see why adopting from a pet shelter, rather than a mill, is so important.

  3. YESSSS don't buy pets from stores. Adopting is and will always be better. People should adopt older dogs too, since they are usually the ones that are left out there.

  4. I love this! I have been wanting to get a new pup to accompany my other two little ones. The pet finder website is very helpful, I will be using it soon to find a new furry friend. I would love to adopt instead of give money to those horrible animal mills.
